How often does a negotiation assignment end with lunch at Raffles Hotel?
For Krystal Yi, that was just one of the moments that made the MSc in Human Capital Management and Analytics (HCMA) programme at NUS Business School so memorable.
From experiential modules that pushed her beyond the expected, to a vibrant cohort and the richness of studying in Singapore, her HCMA journey was one defined by learning that went far beyond the classroom.
Krystal describes her time in the HCMA programme as “both enriching and transformative.”
Two modules stood out in particular: Communication for HR and Negotiation and Dispute Resolution both took a highly experiential approach, with assignments designed to put students in real situations that demanded real thinking.
One memorable assignment even challenged students to negotiate the impossible, which in Krystal’s case culminated in organising her cohort’s end-of-semester lunch at the iconic Raffles Hotel.
Studying in Singapore added yet another dimension to Krystal’s experience. The city’s multicultural and open environment isn’t just a backdrop, it’s an active part of the learning. “Studying in Singapore’s multicultural and open environment further enriched my learning and broadened my global outlook,” she reflects.
For Krystal, the HCMA experience extended well beyond the seminar room. Her involvement with TMC (The Masters Club) gave her a platform to develop her skills in communication, collaboration, and leadership.
Her cohort, too, became more than just classmates built lasting friendships, a testament to the strong sense of community that defines the programme.
Today, Krystal works as a recruiter in the gaming industry, a fast-moving field where understanding people and organisations is everything. “The programme has given me a strong foundation in strategic HR thinking while enabling meaningful connections across industries,” she says.
For Krystal, the HCMA programme was more than an academic milestone. It was an experience shaped by the people around her, the city she studied in, and moments she didn’t see coming. That, perhaps, is what makes it stay with her.
